Materials Characterization Laboratory

Areas of activity

  • Measurement tasks for the characterization of all types of materials and components
  • Service measurements (diffractometry, thermal analysis) and, after itroduction, independent measurements (Raman, µ-CT)
  • Support with the evaluation and interpretation of the data obtained, provided by laboratory staff
  • The equipment is available to staff and students alike

Key areas

  • Material characterisation using diffraction methods (phase, stress and texture analysis)
  • Vibrational spectroscopy: combination of optical microscopy and Raman
  • Thermal analysis of materials (decomposition, phase transformations, thermal expansion behaviour)
  • Radiographic testing and computed tomography
